Omaha Crash Kills 5-Year-Old, Leaves 10-Year-Old in Critical Condition
The collision occurred at the intersection of 114th and Center Streets. Hunt allegedly drove while intoxicated, heading east on West Center Road and weaving through traffic at excessive speeds. One second before impact, his vehicle was traveling 98 miles per hour. The Chevrolet slammed into the Subaru as it turned south onto 114th Street, splitting the vehicle in half.
Hunt sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital. His blood alcohol concentration was 0.095, and he admitted to authorities that he had taken Adderall earlier that day. A warrant was issued for blood and urine samples, but Hunt refused to provide them.
Douglas County prosecutors charged Hunt with motor vehicle homicide and DUI causing serious bodily injury. He remains in custody at Douglas County Corrections on a $10 million bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 17, and if released on bond he will be required to comply with GPS monitoring and 24‑hour sobriety programming.
The 5‑year‑old boy died Wednesday, according to police, and the 10‑year‑old, who was also injured in the crash, died Friday. Douglas County Prosecutor Douglas Amen said the child “suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries. And as of this morning was still considered very critical and non‑stable.”
Hunt was previously out on bond for a separate DUI charge that led to his arrest on April 3 in Bellevue. The new charges stem from the Omaha crash.
The incident has drawn attention to the dangers of impaired driving and the severe consequences that can result from excessive speed. Officials have urged drivers to avoid alcohol and to observe posted speed limits.
The case remains under investigation, and further legal proceedings are expected as the court processes the charges against Hunt.
